Minutes, 24 Jan 2001 Gen Engineering Meeting -Neutron detector hut drawings were presented and discussed. The length of the concrete slabs used in the roof is making the width of the hut such that there is very little room beside the detector for access. A solution is to leave a small (~2 slab) number of roof pieces off the hut, allowing the walls to be pushed further apart. This hole in the roof could be covered by placing slabs on top of the existing roof pieces, perpendicular to the rest of the roof slabs. A test is needed to see if the slabs can support the weight. Brindza and Fowler will investigate. -The position of the 500L dewar was discussed briefly. After the design of the lower platform extension is finalized, the dewar position will be determined. First choice is left (as viewed from the pivot) of the scattered neutrons. Second choice is to cut a hole in the target platform and place the dewar on the SOS deck. -The liquid helium supply and cold gas return lines that fill the 500L dewar will need to be lengthened. The amount will be determined after the position of the dewar is finalized. -Delivery of LN2 to the target was discussed. In Gen98 there was too much driving pressure and too much loss in the delivery line, resulting in an unnecessarily long fill time. One solution could be to use a LN2 tap off the G_zero transfer line, IF it is installed by then. Another solution would be to get a vacuum-insulated line. No resolution was reached.
